Hi I am Mary Hay. I have been teaching in the Archdiocese of Washington for 15 years and teaching at St Philips for 13 years in various capacities and roles ranging from K – 7th grade. I am also an alumnus of St. Philips as I attended school here from Kindergarten to 8th grade and have been a parishioner my whole life.
I attended The Catholic University of America and received both my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 2006 and Master’s Degree in Special Education in 2011. I was recognized as a Golden Apple Teacher in the Archdiocese of Washington in 2018.
Currently, I am the 6th and 7th Grade Literature Teacher, and Resource Teacher. In Literature class my main goal is to help the students develop and cultivate a love for reading while also becoming critical readers and thinkers. As a resource teacher I work to support the diverse needs of all our students and teachers. I work with students in various ways both in supporting them inside their classroom instruction and working with others one on one to address specific learning needs, create accommodation plans and individualized learning plans. I believe in the importance of working to make our school inclusive and accessible for those families who wish to join us.
At St. Philip’s I enjoy working with the students on our Academic Quiz Bowl team, The National Geography Bee as well as run our annual Math-a-thon for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a charity and event at our school that I am passionate about. In my free time I enjoy watching and going to Washington Nationals baseball games, traveling, cake decorating, and spending time with family and friends.
